Vitamix 5200 Blender Review In 2022

So you’re considering a new blender. You’ve done your research and seen everything that the world wide web has to offer in the realm of blenders. 

You’ve come across a model that catches your eye – the Vitamix 5200 Blender. You wonder if it’s any good.

We get it – it can often be hard to know if a product lives up to the hype that the manufacturer’s description elicits. How do you know that you’re buying the right blender?

Well, if you want to learn more about the Vitamix 5200 then you have certainly come to the right place.

We’re going to tell you everything that you need to know about this product so you can make an informed decision about why it is or isn’t the right choice for you.

A Well Known Brand

First, a little bit of background information. After all, you’re more likely to want to buy something off a brand that you know you can trust, right? 

Thankfully, Vitamix is such a brand. This brand is known for providing people with the best of the best in terms of blenders.

Their products are used across the globe by businesses and individual consumers alike. They’ve been operating since 1921 as a small family owned business, but the company blossomed into something much larger in 1949 thanks to an infomercial they aired at the time.

The company is so revered for a reason – they create products that are exceptionally durable and high powered, which is what you need in the kitchen. Naturally, these products are still popular today and are a staple in many different kitchens.

What You Get

So what do you actually get when you purchase the Vitamix 5200? Well, it’s important to note right off the bat that the Vitamix 5200 is not the most recent model on the market.

As a result, there will be features that are present on newer models that you may not see here.

There’s nothing necessarily wrong with that, though. It’s a little cheaper due to its age, but all of the specifications that you get are plenty to help you to make an incredible smoothie or anything else you want to use it for. 

With all of that out of the way, here are some of the things that you can expect from the Vitamix 5200.

A Blender With Many Uses

Blenders can be really expensive. So much in fact that you may be stunned when you look at the price. This is especially the case with blenders from big, trustworthy brands like Vitamix.

Naturally, if you’re paying so much money for an appliance, you want to be sure that it’s versatile enough to be useful to you beyond when you’re making smoothies in the summer.

But is the Vitamix 5200 a versatile option? We’d certainly say so. It’s even more versatile if you buy the dry blade container to go with it.

What’s the point of a dry blade container? Well, these are ideal for things such as nuts, rice and grains. Basically, it’s perfect for all of those tough dry grains lurking around in your cupboards.

If you want to knead dough without using your hands? No problem! This blade may not actually be necessary if you can’t see yourself using the blender for flour or grains, but it’s nice to know that it’s there if you want to use it. 

The wet blade that it comes with should be sufficient for most of your blender needs. It is ideal for drinks, baby food, sauces, smoothies – you name it. 

Incredible Levels of Power

When you’re in the market for a blender, there’s one thing that you want to make sure that you are getting with your purchase – an incredible motor.

You certainly won’t be disappointed with the Vitamix 5200 blender. Indeed – this product offers a lot of horsepower.

You won’t find this bad boy struggling to chop up those particularly tough veggies. It’ll tear them to shreds in mere seconds. You don’t need to worry about sitting next to your blender pressing the blending button for 5 hours with this model.

With this blender, you will get a motor with 2.0 horsepower, and this means that the blades can spin at a ridiculous speed. 37000 rotations per minute, to be particular.

There are very few blenders on the market that we can honestly say outrank it in this respect, especially older models.

It doesn’t matter what you want to make. With this blender, you can make all sorts of things from smoothies to sauces and anything else in between.

The blender is so fast that it can even generate heat, so if you want to warm up yesterday’s soup you don’t need to wait for the microwave to ping. Just blend the soup again for roughly five minutes and you’re good to go.

Impressive Blades

You know the sorts of blades that you see in those shows based in Medieval times where people fight with those really impressive swords?

Think that, but shrunken down to go inside of a blender. These blades are so impressive that you will truly be knocked off your feet by what they can do (though, we wouldn’t recommend that you take a blender to a sword fight!).

This blender wouldn’t be nearly as good as it is if the motor alone was its only selling point – that’s why Vitamix went all out in ensuring that their blades were up to the challenge too. These blades are made out of aircraft grade stainless steel and are so sharp. 

Thanks to these sharp blades, you have so many things that you can do with the blender. You can even blend the toughest things, like carrots and pumpkins.

It’s pretty ideal if you’re making purees and soup. Likewise, it’s also great at blending out leafier veggies such as kale, so you won’t get tiny bits of kale floating around in your smoothie. 

The blades are lacking in one sense though – they’re quite challenging to remove from the blender unit.

As such, it can be a bit of a challenge to try to wash the blades. You’ll have to be really careful when washing the unit since you could get hurt trying to navigate around the blades. We wish that the blades could be removed so they were less dangerous to wash! 

Blender Container

This blender is pretty awesome to look at. It’s large and in charge, and this will do wonders for you in the kitchen. It stands tall at 20 inches, though it’s a tiny bit shorter at 17 inches when you take the lid off.

In terms of capacity, that’s where the blender container really shines. It can carry 64 ounces, which is perfect if you are trying to prepare meals for a large group of people. It’s ideal for those summer get-togethers or making your gym friends some fresh fruit smoothies to go. 

Now, the large capacity may make you think that it won’t be possible to just make small amounts of things. Thankfully this is certainly not the case.

You can make small amounts of things in the blender and there’s no need to worry about anything becoming stuck on the bottom of it. It’s also not going to cause any kitchen accidents, thanks to the BPA-free Tritan that the container is made out of. Crisis averted! 

Control System

When you look at the blender for the first time, you will see that there are two switches on it. There is also a variable speed control dial like you would find with many other kinds of blenders.

There aren’t any other controls on there, which is both a good and a bad thing.

So what do the switches do? There’s a toggle on the left side of the blender – this is what will let you choose between variable speeds and higher speeds.

On the high speed setting, the blades move incredibly fast. On the flip side, the variable speed will allow you to choose a speed from an option of one to ten. On the right hand side there is the on and off switch – the purpose of this is pretty self explanatory. 

What’s fantastic about this blender is that there are a lot of blending options thanks to all of the speeds available to you. This allows you to work with a lot of different types of foods and allows you to create many consistencies.

If you want to work with ice or frozen products then using the high speed mode is the way to go. You can use this to make your frozen smoothies or to make a snow cone for a hot summer’s day.

On the flip side, if you want to blend a smoothie or make a salsa, all you have to do is put the blender on a lower speed setting. 

Unfortunately though, this limit in buttons and presets means that operating the blender can be quite annoying if you are working in an environment like a restaurant where it’s better to have presets so you don’t have to spend time playing around with all of the options.

This is really just a minor complaint, but it’s one that’s worth mentioning nonetheless. 

Heat? No Problem! 

There’s a common worry among people that use blenders that if they use it for a certain amount of time it could end up overheating.

In some cases it is possible that this might happen, but you don’t need to worry about this with the Vitamix 5200 blender. The company has already tried to avoid any issues in this regard by creating a product that has a cooling fan built in. 

This fan is the stuff of magic because it helps to ensure that the blender doesn’t get too hot. It’s definitely a feature that’s much needed in a blender with such a high powered motor like this one.

If you do still happen to over use the blender a little too much then you don’t need to worry. The blender also comes with built in thermal protection.

If this ends up kicking in then the blender will automatically turn off in order to avoid any damage from overheating. 

What Else Is On Offer?

In addition to all of the other great things that we mentioned above, you’re getting even more bang for your buck when you think about what else is on offer.

For starters, the product comes with a 7 year warranty. This can give you a lot of peace of mind in the event that the blender ends up breaking or there’s some other kind of fault with it that you couldn’t have had any control over. 

In addition to that, the blender also comes with a retractable power cord that’s 6 feet long which makes it a lot easier to use.

It comes with a tamper too for when you need to work with particularly tough ingredients, alongside a DVD guide that will help you to work out how to properly use it. 

So What’s the Problem? 

Let’s be real – there’s always a catch when it comes to products that you buy for the kitchen. We all want to think that we’ve bought the perfect appliance, but this is rarely the case.

There are always going to be some options that are simply lacking in certain areas. So, what’s the problem with the Vitamix 5200? 

We want to preface this by saying that this is an incredible blender that will be a great fit… For most people. Not all people are going to like this blender, so it’s worth noting that straight away. We think it’s great, but it’s not without its issues.

The main problem with this blender is the most obvious one. It’s pretty expensive, as many blenders from Vitamix are. It’s worth it to get a high quality product, but you’re certainly going to see a big slash to your bank balance after you buy this blender. 

Another big problem is that if you want to have a quiet blender, this certainly isn’t it. It can be quite loud, as you might expect from a blender with such a powerful motor and quick blades.

It translates to about 90 decibels in terms of sound, so you aren’t going to be able to speak to your granny over it in the kitchen. You may want to wait until the blender is done doing it’s thing before you attempt that! 

Here’s one that’s going to disappoint the lazy parts of all of us – this blender cannot be cleaned in a dishwasher. Big bummer, especially considering the fact that blenders are hardly the easiest appliances to clean.

You’d expect more from a high end blender like this, but unfortunately we’re let down a little by this fact.

Finally, as we mentioned earlier, the controls are somewhat lackluster. Again, you’d think with such a high price tag that you would get more presets and options, but no.

Instead, we have two buttons and a control knob. It’s a little disappointing and isn’t the most convenient thing if you are working in a busy kitchen. 

Should You Buy This Blender? 

It’s always a good idea to remember that when it comes to products, you’re never going to find that an entire population of people agree on whether it’s worth buying or not.

Even if the product has a million fantastic reviews, you’re still going to find one person that blamed the product for the fact that they didn’t get an A on their last school assignment, or you’ll find that some random person has claimed that the blender is the reason for their divorce.

It’s just the way that it goes, unfortunately.

With that being said, this is a fantastic blender in many different respects.

If you are looking for a blender with great speed that can pulverize even the toughest fruits and vegetables in seconds with the right speed settings, then this is a product that’s worth putting on your watch list.

It’s perfect for families looking to make food in bulk thanks to the large capacity, and for the most part it does work well in kitchen environments too, for instance in restaurants.

Of course, there are plenty of blenders out there that are a lot cheaper than this one if you happen to find yourself on a tight budget.

It is worthwhile to splash a little bit of extra cash on this blender, but it isn’t wholly necessary to do so since there are more affordable options out there. 

For kitchen and cooking enthusiasts, this blender is a dream and other than the price and a few other little problems, we’re hard pressed not to recommend this.

The Vitamix 5200 blender is a great choice and we certainly enjoyed using it! If you buy this blender, we certainly think that you will be pleased with it. Just make sure that you save a little money beforehand, or catch it when it’s on sale!
